The United States has reignited military action against Iranian targets after a brief lull, heightening tensions and fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East. The strikes followed an Iranian attack on a U.S. military installation in Jordan, which houses American troops. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Tehran, pledging a “very hard” response to their actions.
According to U.S. Central Command, American forces conducted a series of strikes over a two-hour timespan, targeting numerous sites associated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. These included military command centers, facilities for missiles and drones, as well as coastal defense and surveillance sites. The operation reportedly resulted in explosions on Qeshm Island near the strategic Strait of Hormuz and in Iran’s Khuzestan province. Iranian state media reported that at least two individuals sustained injuries due to the attacks.
This latest military escalation comes on the heels of previous strikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq, which allegedly resulted in multiple casualties among fighters and Iranian advisors. The increasing hostilities have amplified concerns over the potential spread of the conflict across the volatile region, as diplomatic efforts to resume negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain at an impasse.
In response to the heightened tensions, global energy markets experienced significant fluctuations. Brent crude oil prices surged over 7% amid worries about possible disruptions to oil supplies traversing crucial Middle East shipping lanes.
