Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are seeking to mend their past differences and enhance their bilateral relationship, as stated by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. This initiative follows his meeting with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. Pezeshkian remarked on the positive nature of their discussions, emphasizing the mutual agreement to move past previous disagreements and focus on future collaboration. In pursuit of regional stability, Iranian officials are scheduled to engage with representatives from Gulf countries and Iraq in Oman on September 14. The agenda will center on regional security matters, particularly concerning the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The discussions aim to foster better understanding among regional nations and bolster collective security measures. Notably, Bahrain has opted out of participating in this meeting.
Beyond regional security, President Pezeshkian advocated for stronger economic ties among BRICS nations, urging for enhanced use of national currencies in trade and the development of more robust financial systems. He highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by emerging economies due to reliance on existing global financial and trade structures, which are susceptible to political and economic pressures.
Pezeshkian called on BRICS members to fortify economic resilience and cooperation, voicing opposition to unilateral sanctions and attacks on civilian infrastructure. He underscored Iran’s potential contributions to BRICS economies through its strategic location, energy resources, and transit networks, promoting the development of trade and energy corridors.
