Trump Ends Ceasefire; US Renew Airstrikes on Iran

Published:

The United States conducted a second series of airstrikes targeting multiple sites in Iran, following President Donald Trump’s announcement that attempts to uphold an interim agreement between the two nations had failed. The US military confirmed that the airstrikes aimed at locations associated with Iran’s capacity to threaten maritime security in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iranian media reported explosions in key areas, including Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Bushehr province.

This military action came in response to an incident earlier in the week where three commercial vessels were attacked while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, significantly heightening tensions between Washington and Tehran. As part of the US response, a temporary sanctions waiver allowing Iran to export oil was also revoked. President Trump justified the airstrikes as retaliation for the assault on the shipping vessels and warned that any additional provocations by Iran would be met with a stronger US response.

In retaliation, Iran launched missiles and drones targeting US military bases in the Gulf region, specifically in Bahrain and Kuwait. The Kuwaiti military reported successfully intercepting incoming aerial threats, though there have been no immediate reports of substantial damage. Despite the strikes in Bushehr province, Iranian officials confirmed that the country’s nuclear power plant remained unharmed. They also asserted that Iran would not succumb to external pressure or military action to alter its stance.

The escalation of conflict has sparked concerns about global energy supplies, as the instability around the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil shipping route, led to a sharp rise in oil prices. The renewed hostilities underscore the fragile nature of international relations in the region and the potential impact on worldwide economic stability.
