The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of the Houthi group’s recent statements targeting Saudi Arabia, particularly their threats to enforce a maritime blockade on the nation. In response, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged the international community to ensure the adherence to United Nations Security Council resolutions that pertain to Yemen and the security of maritime routes in the Red Sea.
The UAE has emphasized the significance of specific UN resolutions, namely Resolution 2216 concerning Yemen and Resolution 2722 which addresses the protection of navigation rights and the free movement of vessels in the Red Sea. These resolutions are crucial in maintaining peace and security in the region, according to the UAE’s statement.
Highlighting the importance of maritime freedom, the UAE reiterated that international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, guarantees the right to free navigation in international waters. This stance underscores the UAE’s commitment to upholding international legal standards in maritime conduct.
Furthermore, the UAE affirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia, expressing full solidarity with the kingdom. The statement conveyed the UAE’s backing for any measures that Saudi Arabia might take to safeguard its security and stability, reflecting the close ties and shared interests between the two nations in ensuring regional peace and security.
