US Vice President JD Vance has expressed concerns over alleged attempts by some Israeli government officials to sway American public opinion against a US-supported agreement aimed at resolving the conflict with Iran. Vance voiced these concerns during a podcast interview, where he suggested that certain Israeli figures were keen on continuing the military campaign and were actively working to influence US political perspectives against the deal.
Vance noted that while it is common for various countries to try and influence US policy, it becomes problematic when such interventions start impacting American decision-making processes. He stood by the agreement reached in the previous month, which not only aimed to end hostilities with Iran but also sought to impose restrictions on Israel’s military activities involving Hezbollah in Lebanon. Vance highlighted that the deal was in line with US strategic interests and underscored the need for America to make independent foreign policy choices.
These remarks come after Vance had previously criticized Israeli opposition to the Iran agreement. Despite these tensions, the White House has maintained that President Donald Trump and Vice President Vance are united in their approach to the current administration’s handling of the conflict.
At the time of the interview’s publication, there had been no official public response from Israeli officials regarding Vance’s statements.
