UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with other Emirati leaders, extended their condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, following the passing of his brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Ahmed, who passed away on Monday, was laid to rest at Umm Hurair Cemetery in Dubai after a funeral service at Zabeel Grand Mosque.
The gathering at the Zabeel Majlis included prominent UAE figures such as Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi of Sharjah, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi of Fujairah, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla of Umm Al Quwain, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah. The leaders paid tribute to Sheikh Ahmed’s contributions to the nation’s development and his longstanding service.
Sheikh Ahmed was notably recognized for his roles as deputy chairman of Dubai Police and chairman of ARM Holding. His influence extended to the sports sector, where he was instrumental in founding the Jebel Ali Racecourse in 1990 and served as president of Al Wasl Sports Club, leaving a lasting legacy in the UAE’s sporting community.
In honor of Sheikh Ahmed’s memory, a 10-day mourning period has been declared in Dubai. During this time, the nation reflects on his significant impact and service to the country since its inception.
