The Zayed Sustainability Prize in the United Arab Emirates has set a new record with 10,233 entries from 177 countries for its 2027 awards cycle. This marks a significant 32% increase in submissions compared to the previous year. The prize celebrates innovative solutions that tackle critical global challenges in areas such as climate action, health, food, energy, water, and education through global high schools.
In an effort to reward groundbreaking projects, the prize offers $1 million to winners in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water. Finalists in these categories are awarded $150,000. Meanwhile, six high schools that submit winning projects will each receive $150,000, with finalists in this category being granted $25,000.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General of the prize, emphasized that the unprecedented number of entries underscores a growing global need for practical and innovative solutions that can significantly improve lives. He noted that a substantial majority of the applications originated from developing and emerging economies, with climate action receiving the highest number of submissions.
The announcement of the finalists is scheduled for September, and the winners will be honored during a ceremony set for January 12, 2027. This event will highlight the advancements and contributions made by participants towards addressing pressing global issues through sustainable development and innovation.
