Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has unveiled an ambitious portfolio of projects valued at Dh2.1 trillion, aimed at propelling the emirate’s economic growth and bolstering its status as a global hub for business and investment. Announced at the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Forum in the Dubai World Trade Centre, these projects span various sectors including real estate, transport, aviation, energy, and infrastructure.
The real estate sector is set to receive a significant portion of this investment, with Dh1.1 trillion earmarked for development through 2030. This will include the construction of approximately 350,000 residential units to meet the increasing demand for housing in Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed described this initiative as creating a “city within a city”, with further projects expected to be announced.
Aviation is also a focal point of the investment strategy, with Dh128 billion allocated to the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, which aims to handle up to 260 million passengers annually. Additionally, Dh328 billion is designated for expanding the Emirates and flydubai fleets, and Dh18.7 billion will fund a new Emirates engineering and maintenance complex.
Infrastructure development is another priority, with Dh100 billion set aside for road improvements and the extension of the Dubai Metro Blue and Gold lines. The plan includes Dh151 billion for enhancing electricity and water networks, and Dh80 billion for the Dubai Strategic Sewerage Tunnels system.
In strengthening its financial services sector, Dubai will invest Dh100 billion in the second phase of the Dubai International Financial Centre. This is intended to enhance the emirate’s international business infrastructure and support economic diversification.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of long-term planning and leadership, stating that Dubai will continue to invest ahead of future demand. The extensive project pipeline reflects Dubai’s integrated strategy to expand housing, transportation, aviation capacity, and essential services, while attracting further international investment.
