Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has commenced an official visit to Canada, arriving in Ottawa to strengthen bilateral relations and expand strategic cooperation between the two nations. The visit underscores the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) commitment to deepening its partnership with Canada, particularly in economic and technological sectors.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled is scheduled to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to explore opportunities to enhance economic ties, boost investment, and promote cooperation in key sectors. The discussions aim to build on the enduring partnership between the UAE and Canada, focusing on achieving sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
Accompanying Sheikh Khaled is a senior UAE delegation that includes Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment. This high-level delegation signifies the importance the UAE places on its relationship with Canada.
The visit follows significant bilateral discussions earlier this year between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Carney, where strengthening economic and technological partnerships was a key focus. A major development in these relations is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) finalized in July 2026, aimed at reducing trade barriers and enhancing market access for goods, services, and investments.
The CEPA is expected to foster collaboration in several strategic industries, including energy, mining, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and ports. This agreement builds on the UAE’s previous commitment of $50 billion in investment related to Carney’s visit to the UAE. As the largest export market for Canada in the Middle East, the UAE holds a pivotal role in Canada’s regional trade strategy, with both nations eager to expand commercial opportunities and strengthen ties in advanced technologies and emerging industries.
Sheikh Khaled’s visit to Canada is part of a broader series of international engagements by the UAE, aimed at reinforcing strategic partnerships and expanding global investment opportunities. His recent trip to Greece, where the UAE announced a €15 billion investment as part of a joint initiative, also focused on enhancing bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
