Sheikh Mohamed Commences State Visit to Germany as UAE Leader

Published:

On Wednesday, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is set to embark on a state visit to Germany, aiming to bolster the robust strategic partnership between the two nations. During his visit, Sheikh Mohamed will engage in discussions with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The agenda will primarily focus on enhancing collaboration in the economic, investment, and development sectors while also addressing regional and global developments that are of mutual interest.

For over five decades, the UAE and Germany have maintained diplomatic relations, experiencing significant growth since they established a strategic partnership in 2004. The economic ties between the two countries are notably strong, with bilateral trade surpassing $15.5 billion in 2025. Additionally, approximately 2,000 German companies are currently operating in the UAE, highlighting the depth of their economic connection.

Energy cooperation remains a cornerstone of the UAE-Germany relationship. This visit follows earlier high-level talks in Abu Dhabi, where both sides explored avenues to enhance their strategic energy partnership and broaden cooperation in areas beneficial to both nations. The momentum in economic relations has also been driven by increased private-sector engagement, alongside initiatives designed to foster trade and investment between Emirati and German businesses.

Beyond economics, the UAE and Germany have cultivated partnerships in education, vocational training, culture, and tourism. German educational and cultural institutions have established a presence in the UAE, while new vocational programs are being introduced to enhance skills development and promote professional exchanges. Sheikh Mohamed’s visit is anticipated to further these cooperative efforts, reinforcing the broader strategic relationship.

This state visit underscores the ongoing importance both the UAE and Germany place on their bilateral ties and their commitment to developing new cooperative opportunities in the future. As they continue to strengthen their partnership, the visit is expected to pave the way for expanded collaboration across various sectors, emphasizing the enduring and evolving relationship between the two countries.
