The United Arab Emirates is set to integrate artificial intelligence into its education system, with the Cabinet approving a new curriculum for all public and private schools. This initiative is part of the country’s broader strategy to enhance the use of AI in both education and government services. The curriculum will cover essential AI concepts such as data handling, algorithms, applications, and ethical considerations. Additionally, the program aims to equip 22,000 educators with the skills necessary to incorporate AI into teaching, assessment, lesson planning, and curriculum development.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the importance of continuous learning for educators to ensure that students are well-prepared for a future characterized by rapid technological advancements. Alongside this educational reform, the Cabinet has also greenlit an AI advisory system that will aid ministers in evaluating policies, legislation, and government strategies. This system employs 32 AI specialists to analyze proposals, study global practices, and provide feedback aligned with the UAE’s national interests.
In a separate but related development, the UAE Cabinet has established a regulatory framework for autonomous vehicles. This framework outlines the processes for testing, inspecting, registering, and licensing self-driving cars in the country. The initiative supports the nation’s goals for cleaner transportation and aims to alleviate traffic congestion.
The UAE government has also reported significant strides in digital transformation, with hundreds of millions of digital transactions executed through government services and numerous digital transformation projects launched in the past year. These efforts highlight the country’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve efficiency and service delivery.
Furthermore, the Cabinet has approved a National Ecotourism Policy and evaluated the progress of the National Strategy to Combat Desertification, which spans from 2022 to 2030. These initiatives focus on ecosystem protection, land rehabilitation, and the preservation of native plant species, reinforcing the UAE’s dedication to sustainable development and environmental conservation.
