The visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Germany underscores the growing strategic alliance between the two nations, which has been cultivated through years of collaboration in political, economic, energy, and cultural spheres. In the previous year, bilateral trade between the UAE and Germany surpassed Dh57 billion ($15.52 billion), solidifying the UAE’s position as Germany’s foremost trading partner in the Gulf region. Approximately 2,000 German enterprises, including prominent names such as BMW, Siemens, ThyssenKrupp, and Deutsche Bahn, are operational within the UAE. The energy sector also reflects this partnership’s depth, as both countries collaborate on initiatives related to renewable energy, climate action, decarbonization, and energy security.
A notable advancement in their energy collaboration occurred in 2022 when the UAE and Germany entered into an agreement to bolster energy security and industrial cooperation. This agreement encompasses the supply of UAE liquefied natural gas to Germany and various joint projects aimed at clean energy and climate-focused initiatives.
The UAE-Germany partnership extends beyond trade and energy, encompassing long-standing cooperation in research, technology, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges. This multi-faceted relationship was formally elevated through a strategic partnership agreement in 2004, which included commitments to regional security, economic cooperation, and research initiatives.
